Aims:

These fellowships are aimed at both junior and senior staff, whether clinical or academic, undertaking research relevant to the aims of the Centre.

The ARUK Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis (OA) is a unique collaboration of 7 Universities (Nottingham, Oxford, Loughborough, Leeds, Bath, Southampton and UCL) and Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust, working together towards a better understanding of the relationships between sport, exercise, injury and OA. The investigating multi-disciplinary team includes specialists in orthopaedics, rheumatology, sport and exercise medicine, physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy, epidemiology, nutrition, sports science, skeletal muscle biology, bone and cartilage biology, psychology, physiology and biomechanics.

The ‘Centre’ fellowship programme is a scheme that provides the opportunity for both junior and senior researchers interested in research in sport, exercise and osteoarthritis to benefit from developing their research base and building research contacts in another location, whether working at the Centre or with one of our collaborators.  Applications are welcome for fellowships to bring external researchers to one of the Centre’s sites, or from researchers within the Centre to travel to an external location.  The overarching aim is to develop an exchange programme between the Centre and its national or international collaborators and to foster new relationships.

The candidates would take a 1-3 month sabbatical to work on their project in sport, exercise and osteoarthritis research either in the proposed location within the Centre or at a collaborating institution.  Note two sponsors are needed: the local sponsor (co-applicant of the Centre) and the sponsor at the collaborating location. The research project should be feasible to complete within the time frame and outputs from the fellowship should include at least one publication in a quality peer reviewed journal submitted within six months of completion of the sabbatical.

Successful candidates will need to submit a written report about the project to the Centre within a month of returning to their home institution and deliver an oral presentation about the work for the Centre if requested. Failure to submit the written report within the given timeframe will make the applicant ineligible to apply for further Centre funding.

The fellowship grant can be used to cover reasonable travel, accommodation and research costs. Accommodation costs are set at a maximum of £60pn.

Note: The salary of the post holder would not covered by this grant.
International applicants: Visa eligibility is the responsibility of the applicant.

The Fellowship must be completed before end December 2017.

Applications:

Please submit the following:

  1. A protocol for the proposed project, including a timeline and when the project would take place (must be before 2017).
  2. Explain how this project would improve networking/collaborating within the Centre and/or how it would improve relationship(s) with national/International collaborators relevant to the Centre.
  3. A detailed breakdown of costs.

  5. Your CV.
