Abseiling for arthritis

Fifteen brave volunteers abseiled 100m down the iconic Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth on Saturday (21 June) to raise money for Arthritis Research UK. Breathtaking panoramic views set the scene for this exciting challenge and the weather was perfect as blue skies provided a glorious backdrop.

Most of the challengers have arthritis and know first-hand the devastating impact the condition can have on everyday life. In spite of this everyone completed the descent and the group has collectively raised over £7,500. Donations are still pouring in.

Daredevil Angela Phillips (pictured from above on her way down) commented, 'Meeting other people who have all different types of arthritis was great as we compared notes and tips on how to cope with the condition. We all managed to do the abseil, even if we were a little sore afterwards.

'We all feel so proud that we have achieved this challenge and that we are raising awareness and money for Arthritis Research UK.'

The Spinnaker Tower abseil will be running again next year so keep checking our adrenaline events page for details on how you can take part. For other fundraising challenges in your area, visit our events page.
