Arthritis Research UK November 2015 project grant deadline and highlight notices

The next project grant round will be opening at the end August and following on from the success of previous round Arthritis Research UK are continuing with their themed call for research into pain and fatigue and its impact on the quality of life for people with all forms of arthritis. As with the previous round potential areas of focus include:

  • Understanding biological and psychosocial mechanisms and how they can be targeted to improve quality of life
  • Approaches to quantify, measure and stratify pain, fatigue and patient groups
  • Research into improving the quality of life for children with arthritis by reducing pain and fatigue

Also in this round Arthritis Research UK are challenging researchers to submit truly innovative and highly original research projects with the potential to transform how musculoskeletal disease pathogenesis and treatment are viewed. Arthritis Research UK has played a significant role in supporting pioneering and fundamental research across the spectrum of musculoskeletal disorders. They are particularly proud of the research they have supported that has revolutionised the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and the significant gains they have made in supporting similar research in conditions such as osteoarthritis and rare musculoskeletal diseases. Arthritis Research UK is committed to continuing this role and seeking to make new discoveries that will lead to the development of new treatments and cures for arthritis in all its forms. In order to achieve this goal they want to see exciting research focusing on:

  • Resetting the checkpoints in immune tolerance and reversing autoimmunity
  • Discovering the underlying disease mechanisms and processes
  • Identifying truly novel treatment targets
  • Realising the potential for precision medicine (such as tissue regeneration and patient stratification)
