BBC reports on self-healing muscle grown in the lab

The BBC has reported that scientistshave grown living muscle in the lab that not only looks and works like the realthing, but also heals by itself - a significant step in tissueengineering.

Prof Mark Lewis, Loughborough University, said: "Anumber of researchers have 'grown' muscles in the laboratory and shown thatthey can behave in similar ways to that seen in the human body. However, transplantation of these grown muscles into a living creature, which continueto function as if they were native muscle has been taken to the next level bythe current work."
