Congratulations to Professor Cyrus Cooper who has recently been appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire. Professor Cooper is Director of the Medical Research Council Lifecourse Epidemiology Unit at the University of Southampton, and he was awarded an OBE in January 2015.
Professor Cooper will support the Lord-Lieutenant in carrying out his functions as HM The Queen’s representative in the county of Hampshire. The duties of the Lord-Lieutenant include, among others, arrangement of Royal visits to the county, liaison with local units of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, and presentations of awards on behalf of HM The Queen.
Arthritis Research UK have worked with Professor Cooper for many years; currently he is a grant holder, member of the Treatment subcommittee and Chair of the clinical study group (CSG) leads. He is leading the MAVIDOS clinical trial, funded by Arthritis Research UK, which is investigating whether giving vitamin D supplements to pregnant women who have slightly low vitamin D levels is beneficial for their babies' bones.
He is also a co-applicant on many of our centre of excellence awards, including the Arthritis Research UK-MRC Centre for Musculoskeletal Health and Work, the Arthritis Research UK Centre for Epidemiology and the Arthritis Research UK Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis.
