Launch of Richmond Group Report - My Data, My Care
Published by Arthritis Research UK | 16 January 2017
Today the Richmond Group of Charities, of which Arthritis Research UK is a member, launches its report ‘My data, my care’. Dr Liam O’Toole, Chief Executive Officer at Arthritis Research UK, attended the launch at a breakfast roundtable in the House of Lords.
The purpose of the report is to highlight the importance of good data in the charity sector and the benefits it brings for improving health and wellbeing. The report features real life case studies of how charities use data, including Arthritis Research UK’s Musculoskeletal (MSK) Calculator.
How better use of data improves health and wellbeing
Despite an estimated 10 million people living with a musculoskeletal condition across the UK, musculoskeletal conditions have often not been included in local health needs assessments, known as Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNAs). Our research found that one in four local authorities did not mention arthritis.
The MSK Calculator is a huge step towards filling this information gap and is important for use in local planning of health and care, and public health services. This online tool provides health planners with the most accurate and up to date musculoskeletal healthcare data estimates.
