Professor Cyrus Cooper awarded OBE

Congratulations to Professor Cyrus Cooper, Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Southampton and Chair of Musculoskeletal Science at the University of Oxford, who has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list 2015 for services to medical research.

Professor Cooper has a long history with Arthritis Research UK as a grant holder and member of our funding committees. He is currently a member of the scientific strategy and fellowship implementation committees, as well as the lead of Arthritis Research UK’s seven clinical studies groups.

Professor Cooper is leading the MAVIDOS clinical trial, funded by Arthritis Research UK, which is investigating whether giving vitamin D supplements to pregnant women who have slightly low vitamin D levels is beneficial for their babies' bones.

He is also a co-applicant on many of our centre of excellence awards, most recently the Arthritis Research UK-MRC Centre for Musculoskeletal Health and Work, which will officially launch next month.
