Successful 'Injury Prevention and Performance in Youth Football' workshop held in Southampton
On Tuesday 10th October 2017, 35 football coaches, players, national and international researchers and academics attended the International Movement Screening and Interventions Group workshop 'Injury Prevention and Performance in Youth Football' hosted by Southampton FC at St Mary's Stadium.
Talks during the day included:
- Evidence informed injury prevention in youth sport
- Neuromuscular warm up study in community youth football
- Behaviour change
- Reducing injury and growing pains during the growth spurt
- 1st team & academy injury prevention programmes at Southampton FC
- Performance benefits of injury prevention programmes
A selection of coaches were invited to sit on an expert panel to discuss building community partnerships in injury prevention. A panel of current players discussed training, warm-ups and injuries.
Information gathered from the group discussions will be used to enable researchers to identify the group's research needs. It is hoped that several of those who attended the workshop will continue to work with the International Movement Screening and Interventions Group.
The Arthritis Research UK Centre for Sport, Exercise and Osteoarthritis and FortisNet (‘Strength through Collaboration’) are very grateful to all the international visitors and attendees who contributed to the workshop, as well as to Southampton FC for hosting the event.
